Tashilunpo Monastery£¨ÔúʲÂײ¼Ë£©: It is the seat of the
Panchen Lama, founded in 1447 by Gedun-Drup, the
first incarnation of the Dalai Lama and a discipline
of Tsongkapa. It is the largest monastery housed
3,800 monks.
Main relics: 1) Jamkhang the Chapel of Maitreya.
Enshrined inside the chapel is a giant 26-meter
high sculpture of Maitrya, which is said to be its
biggest bronze image in the world. A total of 6,700
ounces of gold and 115,875 kilograms of copper were
use for the construction of the image; 2) Funerary
stupa of the First Dalai Lama, the founder of the
monastery, and those of the first through the ninth
Panchen Lamas
